The Power of Entrepreneurship
One of our proudest success stories comes from a small village in Kenya. Through our entrepreneurship program, we provided training and resources for a group of women to start their own soap-making business. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, they were able to expand their business, hire more workers from the community, and increase their profits. Now, they’re not just supporting their own families, but also contributing to the local economy.
But it’s not just about financial success. Empowerment means giving individuals the confidence and skills to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their own communities. In Haiti, we worked with a young woman named Marie, who had a passion for music. We helped her get connected with local mentors and resources, and now she’s not only pursuing her own music career, but also teaching other young people in her community.
The Seeds of Self-Reliance
At IDC, we believe that true sustainability comes from investing in local talent and fostering partnerships within the community. That’s why we’re so proud of our agricultural programs, which help farmers develop the skills and knowledge they need to grow their own crops and support their families.
In Malawi, we worked with a group of farmers to establish a community seed bank, providing them with access to a variety of high-quality seeds that were adapted to their local climate. This not only helped increase their crop yields, but also enabled them to share their seeds with other farmers in the community, creating a network of self-reliance that will continue to grow for years to come.
