Agriculture is a crucial sector that can help in advancing inclusive development and reducing poverty. At IDC, we recognize the importance of promoting sustainable agricultural practices that contribute to building a dignified world of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Our programming in agriculture focuses on promoting good agronomic practices, training farmers, and using farmer field schools to improve productivity and crop yields across different value chains. We recognize the importance of mixed farming and intercropping to promote soil health, reduce pest and disease damage to crops and livestock, and increase resilience to climate change.
We emphasize good post-harvest handling to minimize losses and ensure food safety. The organization promotes both subsistence farming and commercial selling of produce for income generation. To this end, IDC provides improved seeds and recognizes early warning signs to help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns and market demands.
We also recognize the importance of collaboration and community involvement. To that end, we work closely and in a participatory way with our program participants within local communities to identify their needs and priorities and to develop solutions that are tailored to their specific local contexts. This approach ensures that local communities are empowered to take ownership of their own development and that the solutions developed are sustainable and have a lasting impact.
Our programming in agriculture is based on promoting sustainable practices that contribute to reducing poverty and advancing inclusive development. By promoting good agronomic practices, providing training and resources to farmers, and promoting sustainable farming practices, IDC is helping to build a more resilient and sustainable future for all.
